Of time and tide

In the early 90’s my Dive Buddy Brad K-R “found” something off seacrest park.   Immediately I made him show me.  It was night, it was dark, it was cold, and I was a bit narc’d.    We thought we’d found the fabled ferris wheel from Luna Park (little attention paid to the fact that Luna Park was actually on… Read more →

The Visibility Project

More information on one of our other projects,  “One Battery at a Time” can be found here: One Battery at a Time and a bit more of the story Great Battery Roundup! Beneath the Looking Glass brings you “the Visibility project” Beneath the Looking glass was founded by a diver in Seattle, Washington who realized that much of the beautiful… Read more →

Batteries #3-5 recycled!

3 dives and 152lbs of lead later. The new process of parking them in the intertidal zone worked like a charm.  From what i could see, the lead houses were vacated. I’ve realized is that there are far far far more batteries than I’d imagined in Cove 2 alone.   We have basically swum in 3 straight lines and found… Read more →

Battery #3, almost removal

As Saturday was dedicated to storm drains, the ‘dive plan’ for Sunday was quickly filling up.    Secchi disk reading, videoing some fin kicks and making sure our training square was in good condition, practicing valve drill and finally another  battery removal.  No small order! Gearing up took a bit longer than expected, but that is nothing new,  the people… Read more →

Saturday stormwater

snow, ice and storm drains…

The Snow, the deep freeze, more snow, the melt and Stormdrains!  (yes, my favorite topic) They are all connected…  snow falls, ice freezes over the storm drains and then you have public pleas from the Mayor… Seattle Mayor asking for our help! All this water… its amazing isn’t it?    Rain, melt, streets becoming ponds.   The city has crews… Read more →

Adventures in Recycling

How many of you have actually BEEN to a recycling facility?  I hadn’t… I drive by a number of them on a daily basis, the metal recycling plants to the south of the West Seattle bridge (freeway for those who remember it that way).   I have shot ‘thought provoking’ video of their smokestacks.  That is about as close as… Read more →

Battery #2… Achievement unlocked.

Letting neither weather forecast nor lingering snow deter us,  myself and fellow BtLG Dive Team member Caleb C. got out to pull a second battery from the popular Seattle dive site known as “cove 2” over in Alki. Upon leaving the house there was a bit of snow falling, but a short 5 min drive around Duwamish head revealed naught… Read more →
